SCHMITT, Oswald

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Oswald Schmitt on November 18, 2022, at the age of 93. Predeceased by his beloved wife Erica and siblings Tony, Richard and Maria. He leaves to mourn his children Michael (Lori), Charles, Caroline (Elias), cherished grandchildren Christopher and Katie, and his brother Josef. 

Oswald was born in Limburg, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1950 seeking adventure and a better life. He married Erica in 1960 and raised his family. He devoted his career to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he served as Director of Finance for many years.  A man of great faith, he was always kind, loving and generous, helping many along his way. He was devoted to his family and community, contributing to charitable works as a proud Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He especially enjoyed his time at Lac Desert with his family, gardening and spoiling his grandchildren. He will be missed by all. 

“We are only guests on this Earth and journey restlessly towards our eternal home. Once we are exhausted, guide us with your light oh God, then we’ll find your loving Grace” 

The family will receive condolences at 10:00am on Monday, November 28^th at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 899 Chomedey Blvd, Laval. The funeral service will take place at 11:00am, followed by burial at Mount Royal Cemetery, 1297 Chemin de la Foret, Outremont.
