HAMMOND, Ronald

HAMMOND, Ronald

1950 - 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald Hammond, 70, announce his passing away peacefully at home in Laval on January 19th 2021 after his brave fight with cancer.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 39 years, Louise, and his son Ian and daughter-in-law Marie-Pier. He was preceded in death by his parents Norman Hammond and Lauretta Wilson and his older brother Ted (Mary Ann). He also leaves in mourning his brother Bruce (Dale); his sister Heather (Robert); his brother-in-law Normand (Suzanne); his brother-in-law Paul (Cathy); as well as nephews Mark and Trevor, and nieces Tiara, Holly and Kim. He will also by deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.

Devoted husband and father, Ron worked for 48 years at Lawson Mardon\Amcor Packaging as graphics manager where he would put on display his meticulous perfectionism and professionalism. Whether it was snowmobiling, fishing or hunting, he loved being in nature. One of the things he was best at was picking a tree, sitting down and taking naps in the forests of Lachute, which is probably why he is more known for shooting off the tops of trees to get Christmas trees than he was known for shooting deer. Avid golfer, he loved simple things like playing cards and going to Chinese buffets.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date when it will be possible. The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors at the Royal Victoria Hospital and CLSC Laval, specially the Palliative Care unit who gave the best care possible to Ron and allowed him to spend his last days as painless and peacefully as possible at home in dignity. While the family does not wish to impose donations, if people feel the need to, the family would like them to support cancer research foundations across their communities.

Tina, Joseph,Nicole and I want to send you our deepest condolences and May God give all of you the strength and courage during this difficult time. Ron is and will continue to be a great friend of mine. I have known Ron for well over 30 years. We worked together on projects and always had a great time. He was a perfectionist at his profession and was greatly respected by people he worked with. My fondest memories were the golf tournaments, lunches dinners, hockey games, NASCAR race ,( first one and we had a blast) and musical shows that I attended with Ron. We always had a great time. Playing cards with Ron and Louise was a pleasure and I wish I had the chance to play one last time but that won’t happen. I will always remember my best friend and hope he is resting peacefully.

Love

Louise, Ian, Marie-Pier and family.

Kitty and I, along with Laurie and Nick offer our deepest and most sincere condolences to you and the entire family. May God give you courage and strength.
As you know, Ron and I go back a ways ( nearly 40 years) through working together at first and mostly through friendship, trust and respect. It truly saddens me to lose Ron at this early stage and at the same time, it makes me smile thinking of what and how we went through our times not only at work but sharing activities that we looked forward to on a regular basis. Ron was always helpful, involved but mostly fun to be with. I can’t believe all the times he cracked me up with his antics and his witty stories. Yet at work, he contributed largely to our successes. I always depended on him and he never let us down. He liked to act tough but we all knew he was all heart. We could always count on his smile whether he won or lost an argument or a debate.
We often talked about our families and his love for you Louise, Ian and others, was always apparent and first on his mind.
Rest In Peace Ron, you made your mark on many of us and I feel fortunate to be your friend. I already miss you!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Ron was not only a co worker for over 30 years but a dear friend. When I think of Ron, I immediately think of all the laughs we had : at a restaurant having our usual 5 course meals, at our summer BBQ’s with friends and at the office during a “Ron yelling” moment when things were not done to his standards. Ron was a perfectionist who took great pride in everything he did. As we would often say “ if you want peace of mind and done right, give it to Ron.”
Elena and I will miss the big bear with the huge heart. Rest in peace Ronny.

I wish to offer my sincere condolences to the family and extended family of Ron and Louise

Having worked with Ron for the last 8 years at the Lachine facility, Ron was a fair, meticulous professional who knew the job blindfolded, and was proud of the many
accomplishments throughout his career!

We had talks about music, of which Ron had a passion. He knew talent and was a big fan of Adele!
We talked shop and Ron could spin a tale....fishing, camping, travels with Louise.

He will be surely missed, but my memory of him are of a big teddy bear with an infectious smile and laugh.

God bless you Ron....
Rest in Peace Mr. Hammond

40 years of experiences with Ron cannot be summarized in a few lines. Friendship, brother, teacher, limousine driver, poker partner, music encyclopedia, Christmas tree hunter, generous, genuine, honest, loving husband and father, best brother-in-law, a man who shared with so many.
I remember mum and dad saying : “Could not ask for more from à son-in-law”. He was always there in good and bad times. He will be sorrily missed.
His generosity will live on in us.

Happy thoughts during this incredibly sad time…………………
Ron was our Uber driver years before Uber was even thought of. He chauffeured us from and to airports, family visits, ATM machines, sightseeing, and for any other reason we desired.
Ron always had a great inventory of jokes and told them well. He was a human encyclopedia when it came to facts and statistics.
He delighted in an occasional practical joke. Like asking cousin Patsy to “come look up in this tree”. At which time he shook the tree and doused her.
We had so many enjoyable trips including several cruises. Ron became a well-known customer at every ice cream bar within walking distance. In retrospect, the two of us even had fun getting lost in Copenhagen walking back to the hotel because the taxi driver would not accept more than four passengers. (Auntie Moira was with us.)
Thank you, Ron, for countless happy, fun reminiscences that will be with me for the rest of my life.

I am saddened to hear this news. My deepest condolences to the family.

I miss working with Ron on projects - and having daily calls to follow up on progress. I was told that if I could work to Ron’s standard, I would not have trouble meeting anyone’s standards in the world. He was one of a kind. He shaped the way I work, and I will never forget that.

In conversation, I know he cares deeply for his family, and he was very proud of his family. God and peace be with you all.

« Fish on Ron »

I had the pleasure to work with Ron at Lawson. Ron was a devoted and passionate men. He inspired young people to work hard and pay attention to details. He was serious at times and humorous when needed. I kept found memories of my time with the group. May he rest in peace.

Louise, Ian and Marie Pier and extended family

How to say good bye to a loved one is never easy.
My path crossed Ron’s while working at the Lachine plant.
I was 2 days into the job I had given him a document in a folder and he said to me Tina this does not go in this folder but in the other...had something to do with the colour of the folder.
Yes Ron was a perfectionist and a creature of habit. He was also a big lovable teddy bear...
He spoke fondly of his wife, his son and all his family.
He also loved nature and loved his dogs.
The messages here from all his friends are a testament to the person that was Ron.
The last time I saw Ron he was enjoying his retirement. Natalie Campeau, Ron and myself went for lunch at Riccardo’s and we shared some great memories.
Ron you are gone but will not be forgotten.
Safe journey home.
God speed.

We are very saddened about the passing of Ron. The last time we saw Ron and Louise was when we had a wonderful lunch with them at a Cabane a sucre with his sister Heather and her husband Robert. It was such a joy to get together with them.
Before we moved to Toronto we enjoyed going ice fishing with the Hammonds and we think about those good times often.
Terry has a great memory of Ron out hunting and as they left their duck blind Ron started up the motor and then fell out of the boat, leaving Terry going down the river with no one steering the boat. All the guys had a good laugh, especially Ron.
Rest In Peace Ron

My deepest sympathies on Ron's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you and your respective families.
While my memories of Ron (and the Montreal Hammond's as a whole) go back to the days when we were all kids in Montreal, living 2 streets away from each other, the Hammond boys were a fixture basically hanging out every day together. Great memories from those days and spending time at the 'camp' wandering through the bush, fishing and just enjoying being kids.
Ron, may you rest in peace.

Ron was a wonderful friend and colleague to my Dad Franz over the years. Dad always spoke so highly of Ron and the special time he spent with him and his family. There was always a social outing on trips to Montreal, or vice versa Louise, when you and Ron were in Toronto. You two always made the effort to be there for the big occasions and Ron had a huge heart and it will surely be missed by all that knew him. Mom and I value the friendship we have maintained over the years since Dad's passing and were so sorry to learn of Ron's passing. I Know Dad was there to welcome him to Heaven with a big old bear hug for his dear friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you heal and hopefully we can all enjoy a meal at Garde Manger in Ron's honour once it’s safe! Louise, I would like to express my condolences to you and your family. Ron had a tremendous impact on all those who got to work with him in the printing industry. He was disciplined and hard working. He had high ideals and was stickler for quality work in all his projects.
He had a kind heart, always ready to volunteer wherever his help was needed. The stories I most treasure are the ones related to his contributions with the Scouts. And of course, his love and respect for you. I admired how he balanced his work ethic and family life.
Though your heart holds deep sadness, may it also hold the many blessings of the love that will always be a part of you. Praying that God will comfort your heart and carry you through this time of sadness.

About 10 years ago I had the privilege of getting to know Ron, Louise, Auntie Moira and all the extended family. To say Ron was a generous man is an understatement. Ron and Louise embraced their long lost cousins and opened their home and family to us.
Ron always had a funny remark or comment and was such an open book. The saying "What you see is what you get" was totally Ron. His fishing stories etc. were always quite entertaining too.
He was a great husband, Dad and son in law. I wish I had known him longer. I'm sure he's having a Montreal smoked meat sandwich and getting ready to play cards with Auntie Moira.
My sincere condolences to Louise, Ian, Marie, his family and all of his many many friends.
