Mehrdad Alizadeh, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 9th, 2023, at the age of 70.
Born in Tehran, Iran on October 21st, 1953, as the first child of Manouchehr, an Iran Air Pilot and Maryam, a school teacher.
Mehrdad was both academically and artistically gifted. He decided to pursue a career in architecture, which he considered to be the cross section of art and engineering. He attended and graduated from Melli University in 1978 with a graduate degree in architecture. During his career, he was considered one of the trail blazing designers in Tehran.
At the age of 17, he met his future wife Mina, and they fell in love. Mehrdad and Mina were married on October 23, 1975 in Tehran. At the time of his death, he had spent 52 years of his life with his wife. They were married for 48 years.
Mehrdad had a passion for music, movies, art, and culture. He was a talented photographer, painter, illustrator, and sculptor. He could often be found working on his blueprints while playing his favorite band, Pink Floyd, or watching a movie with his two sons and explaining the artistic intent of the director. He loved sharing his love for the arts with others.
For all of his life accomplishments, Mehrdad will be remembered as a person who left a lasting mark on anyone who knew him, either through his passion for the arts or his infamous quick and witty sense of humor.
In November, Mehrdad moved to Montreal from Tehran to be closer to his beloved family, and recently met his first grandchild. He was the happiest his sons had seen him in years.
Mehrdad is survived by his wife Mina Akhavan Farahani, his sister Mitra Alizadeh, his son Mani Alizadeh, his son Nima Alizadeh, his daughter-in-law Emily Ross Alizadeh, and his grandson Leon Ogden Alizadeh.
